For more than 25 years, O’Brien’s Bistro has been one of Pensacola’s favorite locally owned restaurants, offering handcrafted dishes, fine wines, and heartfelt hospitality.
What began as a small neighborhood bistro has grown into an award-winning dining destination recognized for its fresh ingredients, warm service, and chef-driven cuisine.
From Humble Beginnings
O’Brien’s Bistro was founded in 1999 by Chef James O’Brien, a U.S. Navy veteran and former culinary instructor at Pensacola Junior College.
His vision was simple – to create “a small café where great food is paired with great wine.” His commitment to excellence and community helped the restaurant become a beloved local landmark.
After Chef O’Brien’s passing in 2016, his family continued the restaurant’s tradition for another year, ensuring his legacy remained alive in every plate served.
A New Chapter:
David & Lucia Greenfield
In 2017, David and Lucia Greenfield purchased O’Brien’s Bistro, continuing the restaurant’s spirit of hospitality and culinary craftsmanship.
David, a seasoned restaurateur, first came to Pensacola in the 1980s to manage Steak & Ale, where he met Lucia Bonifay, a sixth-generation Pensacola native. Together, they built a rich background in restaurant operations — from Florida to the Carolinas, London, and beyond.
During their years in South Florida, their restaurants earned multiple awards, including Best New Restaurant, Best Seafood Restaurant, and Best Casual Dining Restaurant. Their experience in international and coastal cuisine shaped their approach to dining at O’Brien’s Bistro today — combining fine dining quality with a warm, approachable atmosphere.


A Team That Feels Like Family
Today, the culinary operation is led by Chef Brandon Collins, who trained under James O’Brien and continues his tradition of excellence. Under his leadership, O’Brien’s Bistro remains dedicated to creating flavorful, fresh, and beautifully presented dishes made to order.
Every member of our staff – from the kitchen to the dining room – shares the same philosophy: serve every guest with care, pride, and passion.
